Writers and readers sharing the literature of nature and place
Next Muster - 17-20 June 2011 - The Nature and Place of the Backyard |

"When I arrived at Camden Haven I was in the preparatory stages of a second novel. After three intense weeks, working with a mentor in inspiring surrounds, I'd gained a clear sense of the novel's form and structure, and my characters were now deeply imagined flesh-and-blood people. I had a swag of episodes written in draft form and felt fully immersed in the journey of my characters. I left Camden Haven optimistic and excited about the next stage of writing."

"Being a recipient of the Watermark Fellowship afforded me the luxury of six full weeks to work solely on my stories. But it wasn't only this passage of time that made it so worthwhile; daily canoe trips along a peaceful river, brisk swims in a wild ocean, waking to birdsong every morning and the warmth and friendliness of everyone I met made it an inspiring, creative and nurturing experience. I now have a solid block of work to continue with, something I would never have been able to produce without this fellowship"

"The Watermark Fellowship ... gave me
valuable uninterrupted writing time, a sustained period of time
to get my head around the book and hold it in my mind... The fellowship
introduced me to the Watermark Muster... that the Watermark event
is dedicated to place or environment, has international visitors,
and focuses on ideas and writing (rather than relying on publishers
to bring writers and becoming a festival of book promotion), as
well as being a regional festival, makes it stand on its own as
an
important cultural event."

"The Watermark Fellowship has made
an indelible imprint on my life. It was something that at first
seemed way beyond my capabilities but the warmth and support of
the Watermark family has helped me grow into it. People's generosity
and hospitality has inspired me as much as the unique landscape
of the forest and sea."
